1 Day Wasini Island Dhow Trip Itinerary

Destination: Wasini Island & Kisite Marine Park

06:30 AM – Pick-Up from Hotel
Your driver will pick you up from your hotel or residence in Diani Beach, Tiwi, or Mombasa South Coast and drive along the coastal road to Shimoni village, located near the Tanzanian border (about 1½ to 2 hours’ drive).

Arrival at Shimoni Jetty
Arrive at Shimoni Jetty, where you will board a traditional Arabic dhow. You’ll be welcomed with light refreshments and a safety briefing before setting sail towards Kisite-Mpunguti Marine National Park.

Sail to Kisite Marine Park
Enjoy a scenic dhow cruise across the crystal-clear waters of the Indian Ocean, passing by small islands and fishing villages. Keep an eye out for dolphins—they are often seen swimming alongside the boat.

Snorkeling & Marine Exploration
Arrive at Kisite Marine Park, one of Kenya’s best snorkeling and diving sites.
Explore colorful coral reefs teeming with tropical fish, sea turtles, and sometimes dolphins. Snorkeling gear is provided, and guides are available to assist beginners.

Sail to Wasini Island for Lunch
After your snorkeling adventure, sail to Wasini Island for a delicious Swahili seafood lunch, including fresh fish, crab, rice, coconut sauce, vegetables, and tropical fruits. Vegetarian options are available on request.
Cultural Tour of Wasini Village (Optional)
After lunch, take a guided village walk through Wasini Island. Learn about the local Swahili culture, visit the coral gardens, and explore the Shimoni Caves, which once served as slave holding cells during the 18th century.

Depart Wasini Island
Return to the dhow for a relaxing sail back to Shimoni Jetty, enjoying the afternoon sea breeze and final views of the marine park.

Drive Back to Hotel
Arrive at Shimoni, where your driver awaits to take you back to your hotel.
Expect to arrive at Diani Beach around 5:30 PM or Mombasa by 6:30 PM.
